Ashley Lastovica is known for adding a little fancy to everyday life. I first stumbled upon her instagram a couple years back and loved how she was able to seamlessly integrate fun things for her family with blog content. I recently customized her blog with our Fun Theme, and a brand new logo. Meet, Fancy Ashley.
Hi! My name is Ashley and I write the life and style blog, Fancy Ashley. I got started with my business, almost 5 years ago now. It all happened very fast and has been an amazing and wild ride. I do what I do because I love it. It’s truly a dream job and something that is so much fun. I love to share how I make each day fancy and fun. My motto is “every day needs a little fancy.” I also truly love sharing my favorite finds with my readers and sharing the ups and downs of parenthood and life in general. Partnering and collaborating with companies and brands to share my favorite items, work on rooms, etc is another factor that I just love. All in all, I do what I do because I enjoy it. I think that is key!
Give us an idea of what your average day looks like.
On the mornings that I actually wake up before the kids, I wake up, stumble to my precious keurig, check emails, do some work, make the little presidents’ lunches and breakfast and get them ready for school. After I drop them, I head to the gym. I spin, do yoga or do a barre class. Some days, I’ll head home and do some more work, other days, I will head to a PEO meeting, Bible study, the grocery store or to meet friends for lunch. After lunch, I pick Reagan up, then Teddy, then it’s home for homework and dinner. Some days I work after dinner, after the kids are in bed. Other days, I just watch TV and head to bed. Then I start all over the next day! 🙂
If you’re having a difficult time feeling inspired, what helps reignite your creativity?
This is a tough one. If I am struggling for ideas or inspiration, I try to think of why I am struggling. It’s almost always because of other stuff going on in my life. I search for inspiration and start new projects and try out new ideas and usually this helps me push past the block. I always keep lists of ideas that pop into my mind, on my phone, on pads of paper, etc. My grandfather always had a pad of paper next to him, even next to the bed, I find myself taking after him in this. I always have a way to write down an idea so I don’t forget it!
What’s the toughest decision you’ve had to make since starting your website?
My kids, the “little presidents” are a huge part of my business since I mainly track our daily life. Due to privacy issues, I have scaled back on what I share. They are still a big part of everything, but a lot has changed since I started my business, years ago.
The last time you accidentally spent longer than intended at your computer, what were you doing?
This usually happens when I am working on posts. When I get on a roll, I just keep going, time permitting. With anything, work, crafts, cooking, etc, I think when the mood strikes and you are on a roll, keep going!
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This is a tough one. I love so many different artists. I often listen to music while working and it will vary from Eminem to Taylor Swift to Matchbox 20 to Coldplay. Honestly it just depends on my mood!
Who in your field inspires you?
I really try not to compare myself to others, so honestly, I try to focus on what I am doing, while supporting other bloggers/friends by reading/cheering them on. I think in this field, it’s tough to not compare yourself because there is always someone else with an amazing opportunity. But, It’s like that quote from Erica Cook, “I’m not interested in completing with anyone, I hope we all make it!” Amen!! There is room for everyone in this field!
What goal do you need to reach in order to feel like you’ve “made it”?
I honestly don’t have a “made it” goal in my head, I try to take it day by day and just enjoy the opportunities as they come. I decided early on that I didn’t want to limit myself to specific goals, because each day throws new things my way and honestly, there are so many different opportunities that I would have missed out on, if I tried to only go after specific goals.
What would you do with your business if you had unlimited resources at your disposal?
I would like to have numerous components to my lifestyle brand. I hope to make this happen someday soon.
What is your favorite part of having an online presence?
Honestly, I love that fact that there is a community. It’s nice to know when you’re having a rough time that someone else can relate. I’ve always shared the good, the bad and the ugly and while it’s hard to be vulnerable and share the hard stuff, I do believe that it is the only way to go. I think being a stay at home mom, it’s easy to feel isolated and spend lots of hours alone without much communication with adults. I love that when I share about a tough situation, people can relate and we can share similar stories and how we overcame/plan to overcome them them.
What would you say is the most authentic thing about your website?
This goes hand in hand with above. I share the good stuff and also the hard stuff. I also only share products and companies that I love, trust and purchase from. I always stay true to this. I know my readers/followers trust my advice and I am always truthful about products that I am sharing with them.
What is your favorite PDCD theme?
FUN is my fave and the one that my site is based off of!
In the spirit of constant refinement, tell us about the features of your website, what you have, what you would like to have?
Since, I just had a rebrand a few months ago, I can’t think of anything I would add. If I was asked this months ago, I would have said that I wanted a complete rebrand and I wanted a much cleaner look. Thank you, Lindsay for helping make that happen!
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
This is such a tough question. 10 years seems so FAR away! I have some big dreams and goals that I hope to achieve between now and then. More to come on those. 🙂 I truly hope that social media and blogging is still around. I plan to be blogging/instagramming for as long as possible! I love it!
Thank you so much, Ashley!
