A few years back I started choosing one little word “to focus on, meditate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life”. I learned about this amazing idea from Ali Edwards, you definitely want to read more about One Little Word here.
This past year, my word was Grace. Every day I reminded myself that I wanted to give myself more grace, be more graceful (ha! talk about an experiment in futility..) and give grace freely to others. It was a word that popped into my mind during the many stressful situations I encountered both personally and professionally this year. After a year of focusing on this word, grace has now become an almost effortless practice. Thank you Ali Edwards, what a blessing!
One Little Word 2016: Bright
My one little word for 2016 is Bright. The world has felt dark lately, and I want to help bring back the sunshine. I want to live vibrantly, fearlessly, happily and design websites that do the same. I posted on instagram last week that I love and appreciate a good black and white design as much as anyone, but color is where I’m happiest.
Color is powerful.
Color evokes emotion. Something as simple as a tiny splash of canary yellow has been scientifically proven to improve your mood. Little known fact, I painted my bedroom yellow in high school. My Mom was not a fan, but I loved it!
Color is missing in web design lately, and it’s my mission in 2016 to bring it back. Tastefully, and so that it doesn’t take away from content.
Last week I launched a brand new theme that does just this, Pretty Happy colorful feminine ecommerce wordpress theme. Happy has been sitting on my demo server for over a year, and the past few weeks I felt crazy inspired to finish it up so we can start 2016 off on the right foot. A bright, happy foot with pink polished toes and maybe some polka dot nail art? Yes!
You can check out the Pretty Happy: colorful feminine ecommerce WordPress theme here. The customization options are pretty sweet, they allow you to change the colors so they reflect your version of happy.
Friends, I am beyond excited about 2016! Let us all start the new year off choosing happiness. Choose to be a bright spot in someone’s day. Choose positive thinking over negativity. Train yourself to think positively, something far easier said than done, but absolutely possible and so worth the energy.
