Today’s #loveonyourblog assignment is another simple thing that will give your readers a more custom experience. You’re going to customize your 404 page. I’ve always done this via FTP, by creating my own 404 file. But when I went to create a tutorial for our series here, I stumbled upon a plugin by the great Bill Erickson which does all the heavy lifting for you. All you have to do is install this: Genesis 404 Plugin. Pretty. Sweet.
Once you have the plugin installed, and activated, you can modify the 404 page contents under Genesis > 404 Page in your dashboard.
Your 404 page is such a seemingly small thing, but it can truly make a big impact if you get creative. I know, I know, here I go preaching about creativity again.. I just love when someone’s personality is prevalent in the details.
My favorite movie as a little girl was The Wizard of Oz, naturally all things Dorothy came to mind when I started thinking about what I could put on my 404 page.
Here are a few fun 404 page examples to get your wheels turning.

Follow this tutorial by the also amazing Carrie Dils, and take it a step further with a search box. This tutorial actually makes it so that you can add a search form anywhere on your site with a simple shortcode.
I’d love to see your examples in the comments!

This Love On Your Blog series has been so fun for me, we still have a week left of assignments. If you’re enjoying these type of tutorials, you’ll love our TADA WordPress Tutorial Library.
