I love a clean office.
It makes me happy.
But during the summer it’s not a reality.
So, I’d like to share a poem I wrote with you.
Summer is fun.
Summer is exhausting.
Summer makes me happy.
Summer makes me tired.
Summer is hot.
Summer makes my office a mess.
I love sleep.

In the words of the great Steve Martin, “Some people have a way with words, and other people…oh, uh, not have way.”
I clearly “not have way”.
Now onto the purpose of this post, I’d like to share with you what summer has done to my office. I say “my” office, but I share it with 2 little girls who love to create things just as much as their Mama. We currently have no less than 10 original books stapled together on the desktop.
As a work at home Mom, I understand the importance of transparency when it comes to maintaining sanity. We see these people seemingly running their blogs and business effortlessly. Well, I’m not one of those Moms. Juggling it all is impossible, so instead of attempting that darn elusive “balance” I hear people speak of, I’ve simply let go. I’m a Mom 24 hours a day, it’s all I ever wanted to be when I grew up, and I get to enjoy it now. We still have another month until school starts back, so I’m embracing the summer fun (air conditioning full blast) and working when I have a free moment.
I pushed piles of stuff aside and sat down to publish today’s Fun Font Friday post while the kids relax after a morning at the park, but felt this was more important to share. If you’ve been stressing yourself out all summer wondering when you’re going to find time to work, or feeling guilty for having to work while your kids are out for the summer, don’t do that to yourself. You’re doing your best, and sometimes that means an entire day of Netflix to recharge. Those kinds of days are part of what took me so long to finish the Travel Pretty theme. Brain breaks are just as important as physical ones in my book.
I’m no longer buying into the whole “life is a balancing act” idea. Life is a series of moments we have to seize, stare in the face, breathe in and enjoy without ruining them thinking of what else we could or should be doing. No more guilt. No more frustration. NO more stress. Your adrenals will thank you.
Happy Summer from our very lived in office to yours!
