This One Simple Habit Every Blogger Should Learn post might be one of the shortest I’ve ever written, but one of the most important. Often times I allow my desktop to fill up with loads of files and images I have every intention of deleting, but put off for months at a time. The same goes for my downloads folder.
You don’t think it’s that big of a deal, or that it really affects you until you’re looking for something you need during a busy work day and have to sift through weeks of funny memes, screenshots and old graphics. If this were an “As Seen on TV” commercial, I’d insert a video of you throwing your mouse across the room, losing all focus completely, and giving up. The less dramatic version consists of lost time, and minor frustration. Why not skip that all together by taking care of it consistently?
One Simple Habit Every Blogger Should Learn
Every Sunday I go through and organize my desktop. I file things I’m keeping into their respective folders, and trash the rest. The same goes for my downloads folder, file the keepers and chunk the rest.
I usually wait a day or so to empty my trash can just in case I got a little overzealous deleting things, it happens.
Make it A Habit
In order to make this a consistent habit, try adding it to your Google Calendar. Set the event to repeat each Sunday (or whatever day works best for you), and add a reminder so you’ll be more likely to follow through. Don’t currently use Google Calendar? I’ll show you how to Make Google Calendar Work for You here.
